other peoples homes

residing in another persons home in an entirely different country thousands of miles away from home makes me appreciate my own home. sometimes i wish i had my own bed in my little house in england again. but i am having fun in america. me and my friend have the house to ourselves today so we're drinking coffee, typing blog posts and emailing loved ones.

the weekend has been fun! we've been to michigan lake and pentwater beach just lounging around in our bikinis, reading books and swimming. it's utter bliss.

updates from america: we arrived last night! it's so pretty and quiant here, and so hot! the people i've met are very friendly. we're just about to go for a walk and visit some antique shops, and then we're driving to the beach tonight! i hope you're all having a great day!

i've developed a bit of an obsession with sunglasses (particularly round ones) and a-line skirts. it just may explain why i suddenly have a collection of ten glasses and about a dozen skirts ready to pack for my trip to the states. i'm leaving tomorrow! yeeeeeep! i'm SO excited. i'll try and slip in a few blog pots while i'm there but if this blog seems a bit lonely its because i'm having fun with my pretty american friends.

would it be ok if i took your breath away?

it’s such a delight to receive a package some mornings, especially if its so prettily wrapped, like my fieldguided tote was! sitting down with a cup of tea, a plate of toast and your new pretty parcel is one of the best things in the world. i love receiving new things!

it was fun getting up a little earlier than normal to photograph my new tote and perfume. i've made the decision to add a lot more personal photography (like this) to my blog because i think it gives my lovely readers a better insight into who i am, and gives the blog more volume. i hope that makes sense! heaven knows i don't make sense most of the time, ha!

time hangs off me like moulting skin. i do recognize the increasingly small amount of it I have before my departure to america (on the trip of a lifetime with my best friend!) I just haven’t gotten round to preparing for it yet. my trips to the local shopping centre for swimwear, toiletries and summer clothes are mere notes in my diary, yet to come true, but when they do I will hunt down everything in the pictures above: frilly bikinis, pastel coloured vintage frocks and more. i want to look pretty in NYC!

our new home

i’d started to feel like my old blog (the button owl) had become constricted and tiring. i loved my blog, but i felt ready for a big change. i wanted a change of aesthetic, a new name, new layout… new everything! seeing as there was going to be so much change, it seemed logical to move the blog to blogger while I was at it. tumblr was a nice, easy platform to host my blog from but I needed something a little more professional. my tumblr is still up and running, it’ll just be centred around photography, DIY’s and home décor.

i’m going to miss the button owl- it’s been such a big part of my life for the past year- but i really felt that change was needed. flower child will be taking it’s place and here i’ll be blogging mostly outfit posts, inspiration posts and posts about pretty things. i really hope that you guys like it here and enjoy visiting flower child just as much as you enjoyed the button owl!

things you need to know:

- all followers who previously followed the button owl on google reader and bloglovin are soon being redirected to this url. i'm just waiting for the tech people to finish working their magic. you don’t need to re-follow!
- my twitter name is no longer @thebuttonowl but now @flowerchildvtg. you can follow me here!
- flower child vintage is soon starting an online vintage shop specialising in vintage dresses.
- i’m on flickr now! you can find my personal photography there, as well as a lot of it here.
- i’m on chictopia too! i’ll be posting outfits on there daily, as well as here.

i hope you find this new blog inspirational. let me know your thoughts!
